Truck crashes into Eaton Aerospace picket line

LANSING, Mich. (WLNS) — Witnesses tell 6 News a man drove a truck into a crowd of picketing Eaton Aerospace UAW Local 475 workers Saturday night, killing at least one man and sending several others to the hospital.

The Jackson Police Department told 6 News they are “investigating a fatal crash” that occurred at the corner of E Michigan Ave and S East Ave. This means that at least one person died as a result of the collision, but it has not been confirmed how many were injured or what their condition may be.

When 6 News asked police for additional information, they declined.

However, witnesses tell 6 News that on Saturday around 11:30 p.m., employees of Eaton Aerospace UAW Local 475 were picketing near the facility.

They say passing trucks were speeding down the road when one of them swerved or lost control, ran onto the sidewalk and collided with several picket members.

These people were taken to Henry Ford Hospital, located across the street.

Union workers and their supporters returned to the picket line Sunday morning and will hold a candlelight vigil and solidarity march at 6 p.m. to honor the deceased person and all those affected by the situation.
