MUNICH, Germany – Harry Kane limped off after suffering an injury during Saturday’s Bundesliga match in which Bayern Munich drew 1-1 at home to champions Bayer Leverkusen.

Robert Andrich put the visitors ahead after 31 minutes in Munich, but Aleksandar Pavlovic equalized leaders Bayern eight minutes later with a stunning long-range shot.

England captain Kane, who remained largely anonymous in front of goal, limped off with a foot injury following a collision with Leverkusen’s Amine Adli four minutes before the final whistle.

Coach Vincent Kompany said it was “too early” to determine the extent of the injury but was hopeful Kane would be fit for Wednesday’s Champions League match against Aston Villa.

“I don’t have the exact information, but I hope it’s just a slight pain and we’ll get it back this week,” Kompany said.

Bayern sporting director Max Eberl added: “When Harry leaves the pitch, it means something because he is quite tough.

“(The incident) doesn’t look good, but we hope it’s made of strong English wood and nothing is broken.”

Bayern’s Serge Gnabry hit the post twice in the second half, but Leverkusen held on to a draw.

“We definitely deserved more,” said Bayern captain Manuel Neuer.

“We were clearly the better team and had more chances. It was frustrating to concede a goal.”

However, Leverkusen coach Xabi Alonso was pleased.

“Against Bayern you have to show discipline and sacrifices,” he said, adding: “It was the style and the way we needed to play here today.

“We took it seriously, we limited their chances and I’m happy with the point.”

Bayern were champions for 11 years before Alonso’s Leverkusen turned German football upside down last season by becoming the first team to go unbeaten in league and cup twice.

The hosts were completely dominant from the beginning, and their best opportunity came after a free kick in the 19th minute, which Michael Olise curled a few centimeters above the goal.

However, Leverkusen took the lead after extra time, with Andrich hitting a low shot from a corner after a mistake by Pavlovic.

Despite dominating the field, Bayern’s equalizer came with a stunning shot from outside the box, and Pavlovic made up for his mistake with a phenomenal curl.

The hosts started the second half similarly to the first: Gnabry hit the post twice within a few seconds after an elegant pass from Kane.

Both teams seemed content to hold on to the tie in the final minutes, but although Bayern are three points clear of Leverkusen, Kane’s late injury will be a concern ahead of a busy fixture list.

Earlier, Benjamin Sesko scored twice in five minutes as RB Leipzig’s young attack combined brilliantly to beat Augsburg 4-0 at home.

Sesko scored two goals and provided an assist for teammate 21-year-old Xavi Simons, who himself assisted 24-year-old Lois Opendy’s goal.

Augsburg’s best chance of the game came when he saved a penalty midway through the first half.

Leipzig coach Marco Rose emphasized his team’s “self-belief” and said that after a run of three games without a win, “we were not happy.”

Last year’s runners-up Stuttgart came back down to earth with Sunday’s 5-1 win over Borussia Dortmund and needed a stoppage-time goal from Deniz Undav to secure a 2-2 draw with Wolfsburg.
