Chandigarh: A birthday celebration turned into a nightmare when a large tile from a pillar fell on the birthday girl and her maternal aunt in Elante Shopping Center on Sunday afternoon. They both sustained injuries and were taken to a private hospital near the mall. The Phase 1 Industrial Area police said that the statements of the victims are yet to be recorded and no FIR has been registered in the case so far.
Police said the victims were identified as approx Surbhi Jain35 i Maisa Dikshit13 years old, resident of Sector 22. According to information, Maisa, a child actress who turned 13 on Sunday, went to the mall with her family for lunch around 1:30 p.m. After lunch, family members were taking selfies near a pillar on the ground floor around 4 p.m. when a piece of granite slab fell on them. Surbhi suffered head injuries and Maisa suffered rib injuries.
Family members raised an alarm and mall officials rushed the victims to a private hospital near the mall.
In an official statement, the Elante Mall authorities said: “We are aware of the incident that took place on our premises. Due to our quick response, our team transported the client to the hospital for initial treatment and care. We also cooperate with the authorities in this regard. We inspect the facility internally and take appropriate corrective action to ensure that such incidents do not occur in the future.
The condition of both victims is stable.
