At least 6 people died in bomb explosions in Somalia

According to REUTER

At least six people were killed and 10 wounded on Saturday when bombs exploded in Somalia’s capital Mogadishu and a city in the Middle Shabelle region, police and witnesses said.

It was not immediately clear who carried out the attacks, although the Islamist militant group al-Shabaab frequently stages bombings and gun attacks in Mogadishu and other parts of the Horn of Africa country.

The explosion in Mogadishu resulted in the explosion of a car armed with bombs that was parked on a road near the National Theater in Mogadishu, about a kilometer from the president’s office.

The explosion occurred, killing five people and injuring seven, a policeman at the scene told Reuters, who asked not to be named because he was not authorized to talk to the press. The details of the victims were confirmed by another police officer who was in the area.

A police spokesman did not return a call from Reuters seeking comment.

In a separate incident, a bomb planted at a cattle market in the town of Jowhar in Somalia’s Middle Shabelle region killed one person and injured three other civilians, Jowhar police commander Bashir Hassan told a news conference.

Al-Shabaab has been fighting for years to overthrow Somalia’s central government and establish its own rule based on a strict interpretation of Islamic sharia law.
