Installing traffic lights on Post and Edgewood roads must be a priorityFollowing the accident at Post and Edgewood Roads on September 27, the following letter, written by Christine Weston, president of the Crane Berkley Neighborhood Association, was sent to Assemblywoman Amy Paulin, State Senator Shelley Mayer and Scarsdale Mayor Justin Arest:

Dear Mrs. Paulin, Mrs. Mayer and Mayor Arest,

This morning around 8:10 a.m. at the still dangerous intersection of Edgewood and Post Roads, a man was hit by a car. He commuted to work, pressed the button at the pedestrian crossing and waited. The car closest to him stopped, but the car in the adjacent lane did not, and he was hit. He was taken to hospital but was told he was fine. Costa (the crossing guard) had just arrived to start his shift and witnessed the accident.

The other witnesses to the accident, or at least its aftermath, were small children who were walking to school shortly after the collision. My neighbor reported that the little ones were especially upset by what they witnessed and it really had an impact on the community.

I know that the traffic light construction schedule has been pushed back, that the village is working to gain access to a building lot, and that everything is “on schedule” according to the NYS DOT. This is all great, but it requires you to become your number one priority.

These accidents will not end. Fortunately, the injuries so far have been minimal, but members of our community pass through this area every day and it is only a matter of time before someone, most likely a child who is too small to be seen by cars in the distant lanes, is seriously injured.

Thank you for your interest in this matter and we look forward to your response.

Regards,

Christina Weston
