Train collides with tank resembling military vehicle in South Carolina

A CSX freight train collided with a massive, tank-like Army artillery vehicle stuck on the tracks in South Carolina on Thursday, destroying the $1.5 million wheeled weapon, shocking footage shows.

Dramatic dashcam footage shows the train hitting a howitzer — a large, cannon-like weapon used to fire long range — that was being transported on a truck in the town of Goose Creek at 6:45 p.m.

“It was like a bomb went off,” witness Sonya Pitt told local station WCSC. “We were shaking inside. Our nerves were just shot.”

Shocking footage shows a witness screaming “No!” as the train hits the tank, sending it crashing to the road, with metal fragments flying in the air and the gun spinning on impact.

The truck driver was able to get out of the vehicle before the crash, Pitt said.

“He jumped out of the truck and the train was coming. And maybe five seconds later the train hit and destroyed everything,” she said.
